What An Indian Student Want From Prime Minister Narendra Modi

Dear Prime Minister,
When you won the general elections we were hopeful that you will bring a change in the education system in our country. But till now no major changes have been made which will improve our education system which is one of the most important factor in the development of the country.

No matter. We are sure you have far more pressing matters of national importance to deal with, but I ask you to please consider the following points that can help us improve our education system.

1.Reservation system :Why the son of a farmer belonging to the general category  is deprived of getting  admission into the premier institution of the country having more marks than the boy who belongs to a reserved category and whose family is financially stable or I would say rich?

Why not give reservations to economically backward class rather than giving it to social classes?

2.Will more IITs/IIMs help India?

Yes, Definitely. We would have more pool of highly trained engineers. Lot of IITians have now started raising voices against evils prevailing in the society, opening startups, NGOs, etc. Many go for higher studies and contribute to Research and Development.

But there are few good private institutes such as IIIT Hyderabad,BITS Pilani & BIT Mesra which have a very nice environment,Alumni network, research projects going on.So on the other hand the counter view can be to help these institutes which are already stable and are good as IIT'S.

  • Will more IITs/IIMs improve quality of education

Probably not. Why would it do so? Quality of education is dependent on some of the following factors:

 1. Infrastructure like labs, etc - This won't get affected for other colleges

 2. Syllabus - So if new IITs are formed, other colleges would suddenly wake up from their dreams and update their syllabus? Nope! In fact IIT's should also learn from institutes such as IIIT Hyderabad which has a refined curriculum.

 3. Professors - This won't get affected for other colleges

 4. Quality of students entering - Again, won't be affected.

  • For improving Quality of Education
Focus should be to improve primary education. India has the largest population of youth in the world, but is that of any help to India? India has only 11% students in the age-group 17-23 attending 610 universities, higher and technical institutions, and nearly 28,000 colleges and polytechnics. Nearly 40% students fail to complete primary education and another 40% fail to complete secondary education. So unless we improve primary education, setting up more IITs/IIMs would not improve overall quality of education. We need huge investment in the primary level.

In fact the government should look forward to establish a world class university which can attract students from different parts of the world rather than  setting up more IITs/IIMs.why not improve the condition of state universities and colleges by giving them more funds which will in turn improve their infrastructure and research work. Moreover how can you expect that our education system will improve if the budget for IITs/IIMs is >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> than the rest of the universities combined.

We request you to kindly take some actions.

Thanking you in Anticipation!
