The lesser emphasis on CAT can be seen in the CAT percentile for general category candidates. No one above 99.51 percentile has got admission in the Class of 2015 where as a year earlier the candidate with the highest CAT percentile at IIM I had scored 99.98. As mentioned earlier, for the class of 2014 it was not possible to get a final admit below 95 percentile in the General category. However, for the class of 2015 when the new admission policy was put in place, the threshold has gone down to 90 as more importance has been attached to academics. Sectional percentile of 85 is necessary too. It is quite common for many students at 99.7+ percentile to miss out on an Indore call as above 90 everyone is at the same level. It depends only on your past academics after that. For overseas candidates, 700 in GMAT was necessary to get a final admit.
The number of general category candidates has gone down from 235 to 218. This is because basic filters were relaxed for SC/ST/PWD candidates and it appears that all seats were filled in the recent intake. In 2014, those empty seats were offered to general category candidates. For e.g. minimum CAT percentile at which a ST candidate was admitted was 68 percentile for the Class of 2012-14. That went down to 55 for the Class of 2013-15.
