Allenby beaten, robbed after missing cut in Hawaii

HONOLULU — Golf Channel is reporting that Robert Allenby of Australia was robbed, beaten and dumped in a park after missing the cut in the Sony Open.The network showed a photo Allenby took of his face bloodied and swollen.

Calls to the Honolulu police, Allenby and PGA Tour officials by USA TODAY Sports were not immediately returned.

Fellow Australian player Stuart Appleby says he spoke to Allenby in his hotel room Saturday morning and that Allenby was trying to reconstruct what happened.

Allenby spoke to the Australian Associated Press about the incident on Saturday. He said he believed he had been drugged.According to the Golf Channel report, Allenby's caddie said they were in a wine bar Friday night. He says Allenby was beaten, driven some six miles away and dumped in a park. He was found by a retired military man who helped him back to his hotel.

"I didn't think I was going to survive this one," Allenby told AAP. "I was separated from my friend in the bar after we had paid the tab at 10:48pm and he went to the bathroom and next thing you know I'm being dumped in a park miles away. I only know this part because a homeless woman found me and told me she saw a few guys pull up and throw me out of the car. That is where I got the scrapes above my eye from the sidewalk.

The Golf Channel also reported that Allenby talked with local authorities and Tour officials on Saturday. The Golf Channel said he was outside the wine bar when he was taken. The Golf Channel also reported one of their reporters talked to Allenby who said he remembers coming to in a ditch at a park and then getting help back to his hotel. He did not go to a hospital but was treated by paramedics at his hotel.
Allenby has been assisting police and PGA Tour FBI officials with inquiries.
"We have some names and numbers and they have some leads to follow up, so I am confident they will get the guys," Allenby told AAP. "With the FBI guys involved, they're the best, the guys on the tour are awesome, and they'll get to the bottom of it."
Allenby turned pro in 1991 He has four career wins, according to his PGA Tour bio. He had no tour top-10 finishes in 29 events for 2014. He has more than $27 million in tour earnings.
